White Rose Flag

If you are reading this it's probably because you have a child, grandchild, niece or nephew competing in this year's event.
You might be a team coach, family friend, or just someone enjoying the Saddleworth Village Olympics.

The reason doesn't matter, the important thing is the children are taking part in a great community sports event, an event that draws together people and organisations from across Saddleworth to give the children the opportunity to make friends, play sport and have a great time.

We would like it to stay that way and would ask you to have a quick read of the following and to keep it in mind during the games.

These are extracts from our Parental Code and Child Protection policy:

Remember, that children learn best by example

  • Applaud good play by members of the opposing team.
  • Do not publicly question the officials’ judgement and never their honesty.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activity.
  • Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches. They give up their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.
  • Although we welcome positive support, spectators should not coach from the sidelines.
  • Intimidation of the umpires will not be tolerated.
  • We thank all responsible parents and carers for their continued positive support and look forward to completing the 2011 Games in a safe and protective environment for our young competitors.
