TAG RUGBY RULES

  • Tag rugby is a small sided, non contact version of rugby league.
  • All players must wear a tag belt around their waist, positioned on either sides of the hips with 2 tags attached with Velcro.
  • Play starts with a ‘play the ball’ centre field, at each half.
  •  Only the player who has the ball can be tagged. When the tag is removed, defender shouts ‘tag’ and holds tag above head. Tag is then given back and returned to the belt – both players can then continue with the game.
  •  Player tagged returns to defender – game restarts with a play the ball with a single marker. The defence can only move up once the acting half-back has passed the ball. The acting half-back cannot run directly from a play the ball (ie no “scooting from half-back).
  • A try is scored in the normal way by placing or touching the ball down over your opponents try line.
  • All infringements will result in a hand over. If acting half back is tagged – hand over.
  • No kicks allowed.
  • No hand offs allowed and no protecting the tags.
  • 5 metre rule will be implemented.
  • The team in possession has the ball for a maximum of 6 tags.
  • After a try is scored, the non – scoring team will restart with play the ball centre field.

ORDER OF PLAY

  • Maximum number of squads allowed per village in each of the age groups is 1.
  • The draw will take place prior to the day of competition and teams will only be accepted by the organisers in advance of the draw deadline.

WARNING
Foul and abusive language will not be tolerated and may result in competitors being dismissed from the event/tournament. Spectators must not coach from the sidelines and intimidation of officials will not be tolerated.
